MES Students Bring Home Awards from Kentucky Academy of Science Meeting

Six MES students presented their research at the 2011 meeting of the Kentucky Academy of Science. Four of them came home with awards.

The 97th annual meeting of the Kentucky Academy of Science was held at Murray State University on November 4th and 5th, 2011. Over 600 students and mentors attended from colleges and universities throughout the Commonwealth.

Six Kentucky State University MES students gave poster or oral presentations at the meeting. They were Mr. Jacob Botkins, Mr. Jon Cambron, Mr. Terrell Holder, Mr. Brandon May, Ms. Re’Gie Smith, and Ms. Joni Thompson

The MES students conducted their work with several faculty and staff mentors, including Dr. Michael Bomford, Ms. Sheri Crabtree, Mr. Jeremy Lowe, Dr. Kirk Pomper, Mr. Tony Silvernail, and Dr. Tamara Sluss. 

Four of the MES students won awards for their presentations:
  • Mr. Brandon May (1st Place–Graduate Oral, Agricultural Sciences section, mentor Sluss); 
  • Mr. Jon Cambron (3rd  Place-Graduate Oral, Agricultural Sciences Section, mentors Bomford and Silvernail); 
  • Mr. Jacob Botkins (2nd  Place-Graduate Oral, Botany Section, mentors Pomper, Lowe, Crabtree); and
  • Ms. Re'Gie Smith (3rd  Place-Graduate Oral, Botany Section, mentors Pomper, Crabtree, Lowe).
